Oklahoma Digital Maps Collections - Edmon Low Library
About the Collection
The Oklahoma Digital Maps Collection brings together more than 9,200 digitized maps documenting Oklahoma and Indian Territory from 1803 to 1925. Drawn from multiple historical map groups, the collection includes political, topographical, military, geological, and land-ownership maps that trace the region's development from the Louisiana Purchase through statehood.
Together, these collections provide a rich visual record of exploration, settlement, infrastructure, land use, natural resources, and changing administrative boundaries across more than a century of Oklahoma history.
American State Papers Collection
Contains congressional documents from 1789 to the start of the U.S. Congressional Serial Set, including early maps related to Indian Territory and the lands that would become Oklahoma.
Army Map Service Collection
Includes topographic maps produced for U.S. military use between 1941 and 1968, along with selected maps from the Defense Mapping Agency beginning in 1972. Several sheets cover areas in Oklahoma.
McCasland Collection
Features more than 2,000 maps of the Oklahoma region created between 1803 and 1925, including political, expedition, meteorological, and topographical maps. Digitization and preservation were made possible through generous support from the McCasland Foundation.
Oklahoma - Documents Maps Collection
Contains maps of Oklahoma and Indian Territory published by the U.S. Government outside of the U.S. Congressional Serial Set and American State Papers, along with maps issued by the State of Oklahoma, counties, cities, and commercial publishers that fall outside the Library of Congress "G" classification.
Oklahoma - Other Maps Collection
Includes original Oklahoma and Indian Territory maps housed in the OSU Library Map Room and classified using the Library of Congress system. These maps cover general, subject-based, regional, natural feature, county, and city- and town-level mapping.
Russal Brawley Collection
Consists of maps largely depicting Oklahoma and Indian Territory from 1827 to 1920. Donated by OSU alumnus Russal Brawley.
U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Collection
Contains territorial and early statehood maps dating from 1892 through the 1950s. These maps identify towns, rivers, railroads, schoolhouses, and other geographic features.
Works Progress Administration (WPA) Collection
Includes more than 2,400 county-by-county land-ownership maps created in 1935-1936 by the WPA and the Oklahoma Tax Commission. Maps list landowners, township and range information, and local geographic features.
